A combo spin combines several different fiber braids to create enough spun yardage for a larger project, say for a sweater. The braids are divided into chunks, spun in random color order, and then those singles are plied together.
I’m updating content on some of my previous posts and thought I would share those fresh ideas with you.
There have been many articles written that highlight various perspectives and approaches to color selection. Understandably, there is always some overlap of content. However, no matter how many articles I read or videos I watch, I always seem to glean new pearls of wisdom, whether from a weaver, a spinner, a knitter, a dyer, or sometimes from a source not associated with the fiber arts at all.
Last year our Guild held a challenge called The Crayon Project in which each of us blindly selected three crayons and then, over several months, we had to create a project from that color inspiration.
For 2019, one of our members collected photos of interesting birds. What did we do with those?

You likely are familiar with a color wheel which presents the colors (hues) and their relationships in an evenly spaced circular format.
In June's post 'ABC-Alpaca, Blending, & Color', I prepped and spun a fun, textured, alpaca/merino blend yarn. At the time, I couldn't show you the finished project because it was for a Guild challenge that wasn't yet completed. Well, the Guild members have now met and revealed their projects, so I can share what I created.
Continuing with Alpaca - The Mini Series, today's topic is blending; blending two fibers, in this case Merino wool with alpaca, as well as color blending to achieve a tint (lighter) color.
Oftentimes, I find a new project is stalled by the process of color decisions. I'm sure you can relate, whether your creative medium is weaving or knitting or pottery or scrapbooking or home decorating or [insert your own]. There are so many color choices, where to start?
