Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Back to Blogging

Over the past year, the blog has been a little quiet. My writing time was devoted to my second book Krokbragd Patterns. I’m thrilled at the response it has received thus far!

I filmed a Weaving Krokbragd workshop for the School of Sweet Georgia in the six-week interim since the book’s release. The School of Sweet Georgia is an online video-based membership site providing courses covering dyeing, weaving, spinning, knitting, and other fiber arts.

While I have taught workshops before, I have never been the videographer, set designer, lighting specialist, or director. When you see credits at the end of a movie or TV show, there’s good reason for all those people! It would have been helpful for someone to watch the feed and tell me I was out of focus 2 minutes into a 30-minute filming session; or to run outside and tell Pete that the chainsaw could be heard; or to move the background props, so they framed me rather than “grew” out of my head. It was a learning experience, and in retrospect, I’m happy I had the opportunity. I have added a new set of skills to my toolbox.

I filmed a little over 2 1/2 hours of footage. It is now in the skillful hands of the School of Sweet Georgia editors. I am pleased with what I filmed and can’t wait to see it “all pretty”. The workshop is scheduled for release in early July. I’ll be writing more about it, including a trailer and a discount code for School of Sweet Georgia membership. Stay tuned!

I have done some sprucing up of the website in my absence from blogging, including a new home page, book pages, footer, and color and font updates.

While writing and filming, I have completed a few projects. Above is a glorious crochet throw called The Fruit Garden. It is a design by Jane Crowfoot, who is a superb designer and pattern writer. Her motifs and colors are inspired by William and May Morris. Her website, Janie Crowe, is well worth a visit.

I’m looking forward to getting back to blogging. I have several posts in mind, including more on harvesting and processing “cashmere”, madder root dyeing, and spinning a 3-ply crepe yarn. I’m thinking of doing some video tours of my studio, dye workshop, and a farm walk-about.

I’ll leave you with a photo of our sweet girl, Sadie.

Hugs,

Debby
